Phillip J Dahlberg

Dr. Dahlberg practiced medicine for 29 years and has 15 years of experience in medical/ administrative leadership in all aspects of a fully integrated healthcare system. He is also an expert in healthcare law and policy. His leadership approach is to align organizational and employee values, challenge employees intellectually toward accomplishing organizational objectives, measure their results, and reward them accordingly.

Following his formal training, Dr. Dahlberg began his medical career at Gundersen Clinic, Ltd. as a nephrologist, educator and researcher. In 1986, his interests in medical management began when he was elected to the clinic’s Board of Directors. This led to additional training and a master’s degree in Public Health/Medical Administration, and ultimately to his election as president of Gundersen Clinic, Ltd. He led a successful merger with Lutheran Hospital and the creation of Gundersen Lutheran, the Gundersen Lutheran Health Plan, and the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation. He successfully served as CEO of this new entity from 1996-2001. The organization achieved growth, financial and clinical successes including a fully integrated regional healthcare system, development of an Onalaska campus and a five-story main campus addition, Top 100 Hospital Award in 1997, Top Cardiac Hospital in 1999, Wisconsin Service Business of the Year, 1997 Grand Award, JCAHO hospital and ambulatory accreditations, and designation as the Western Clinical Campus for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical and Nursing Schools.
